Where is NTE?
As you are probably aware, we have a number of different locations for NTE conference sessions (e.g. talks, strand groups, and electives) and accommodation during NTE:
- All conference sessions (including lunch and dinner) will be held at the Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC).
- Accommodation for NTE delegates (except Day Visitors) is at one of three locations: Lyneham Motor Inn; Carotel Motel & Caravan Park; and Formule1.
Go to Google Maps - all the venues are marked, and you can search for directions on getting there from your location.
Accommodation Sites
Each of the three accommodation sites - Lyneham Motor Inn; Carotel Motel & Caravan Park; and Formule1 - are within walking distance (15-20 minutes) from the EPIC site.
The advised walking routes between the different accommodation sites and EPIC are marked out on the map above. As you walk to and from EPIC, please obey the road rules, cross the Federal Highway only at the traffic lights (near the service station), and be aware of other people using the roads and footpaths.
The EPIC Site
The Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC) is on the northern edge of Canberra (Flemington Road, Mitchell ACT 2911). There are two entrances to the site: one on Flemington Road, the other on the Federal Highway just before the service station.
On the EPIC site, there are three main buildings that you will need to access:
- Coorong - all of the main sessions will be held here
- Budawang - meals will be held here (breakfast, lunch & dinner)
- Conference Centre - the NTE Office will be located on the ground floor of this building
To download a map of the EPIC site click here. More detailed maps including the locations of strand groups and elective sessions will be available in the NTE09 booklet.
Parking is available on-site at EPIC in the three areas marked on the map (in front of the main three buildings, behind the Quokka Pavillion, and in the Flemington Car Park). Please only use these three areas for parking. There are other people who work at EPIC during the week and we need to leave the other parking areas vacant for these people.
Getting to NTE
Driving from Sydney:
Drive south along the Federal Highway. EPIC is on the right hand side once you reach Knox Street, before you get into Canberra proper. Turn right into Flemington Road.
Driving from south Canberra:
Head towards Sydney along Northbourne Avenue, which then becomes the Federal Highway. Turn left into Flemington Road.
Catching the bus:
If you are catching a bus from Sydney you may be able to ask the driver to stop at Exhibition Park to let you off. If they are unable to do this, the best thing to do is to catch a bus from the Civic (the centre of Canberra) to EPIC.
The best buses to catch to EPIC from the Civic are:
Both of these buses stop on Flemington Road opposite the main entrance to EPIC. Both of these buses also leave from Bay 8 at the City Bus Interchange (Mort Street near Bunda Street, City).
If you are staying at Lyneham Motor Inn (Mouat Street, Lyneham) then you can catch the following buses:
- 936 (City - Turner - O’Connor - Lyneham - Dickson - Hackett - Ainslie - City)
- 937 (City - Ainslie - Hackett - Dickson - Lyneham - O’Connor - Turner - City)
- 932 (Belconnen to Woden via the City)
- 980 (Fyshwick to Belconnen via the City)

From the airport:
If you are travelling from the airport, the easiest way to get to EPIC (and the only way that will get you there on time for the first session) is by taxi.
Alternatively, you can catch the Airliner to the City Bus Interchange Bay 6 (Alinga Street, City between Northbourne Avenue and Mort Street/East Row). Then follow the instructions above to catch a bus from the city to EPIC. Unfortunately, however, the earliest Airliner bus leaves Canberra Airport at 10:30am on Saturday mornings which means that you would miss the first session.
From the railway station:
If you are catching the train to Canberra, the easiest way to get to EPIC is by taxi. Alternatively, you can catch a bus into the city (see below) and change buses to one of the buses listed above that travel past EPIC.
If you are staying at the Lyneham Motor Inn, however, you can catch the following bus from the railway station to the Motor Inn (Mouat Street, Lyneham):
- 980 (Fyshwick to Belconnen)
