If your question isn't answered here, please email us.

What is SPRTE?

SPRTE is the first time students from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, New Zealand and Australia have gathered together for one training conference. It's a great chance for us to celebrate our unity as brothers and sisters in Christ, while learning about the diversity of our cultures and campuses, and sharing resources with one another.

What's happened to NTE?

AFES' National Training Event will be back in 2009.

About regos

How much does SPRTE cost?

  • Earlybird until 31 August: $315
  • Standard 1 September – 5 November: $330

Are there day regos?

Yes – this is mainly for students who live in Canberra. This rate includes lunch and dinner, but no accommodation or breakfast.

  • Day rego - standard until 5 November: $60 per day
  • Day rego - late after 5 November $65 per day

What happens if I cancel my rego?

You can cancel your rego and we will refund your money, minus a $50 admin fee. Please note, however, there will be no refunds after 5 November. If you need to cancel, please phone us on 02 9697 0313 or send us an email.

Who does the distance discount apply to?

Some students have a lot further to come than others to get to SPRTE, and as you know, travel can get quite expensive! This year there are two distance discounts, which the online rego form will automatically calculate.

  • Students from North Queensland and Tasmania will receive a $60 discount.
  • Students from Western Australia and the Northern Territory will receive a $120 discount.

What is the sponsorship I’ve been hearing about?

We want to encourage as many of our brothers and sisters from South Pacific countries to come as possible. Each Australian campus has committed to sponsoring at least one South Pacific student’s conference fees so at least they don’t have to find that extra AU$300 on top of plane tickets, passports and visas.

If you are a student from the South Pacific coming to SPRTE, speak to your staffworker about how to register.

Strands and workshops

Which Strand am I supposed to do?

Most people who come to SPRTE start with Strand 1, then go through the rest of the strands each year they attend SPRTE. If this is your first conference, choose Strand 1.

There is more info on what will be happening in the strand groups here.

I have done other training at KYLC (or similar). Do I have to start with Strand 1?

Our strand material has been specifically developed for SPRTE, so there won't be exact overlaps with material you may have done elsewhere. It has been designed to be completed sequentially from Strand 1-5. However if you think you are ready to start with a higher level strand, please speak to your staffworker and they can advise you on which strand to choose.

I can't decide - which workshop do you recommend?

It's best to talk to your staffworker about which workshop to choose. Many students choose their workshops based on what activities they will be participating in when they go on mission. So for example, if you're likely to be involved with the children's ministry at your mission church, you might want to do Giving fantastic kids' talks. If still in doubt, Giving your testimony is an excellent 'first-timer' workshop.

Accommodation and meals

I have special dietary requirements. Can you cater for them?

Please let us know what your dietary requirements are when you register. We will let our caterers know - should there be any problems we will contact you.

What is the accommodation like?

You will be staying in an individual college room, with shared bathrooms. The colleges provide bedlinen and towels (but you should bring your own towel for when you go on mission).

Is there accommodation available for married couples?

Our accommodation at SPRTE is in university colleges, which are set up for single students, and the majority of students coming to SPRTE are unmarried, so unfortunately we aren't able to provide married accommodation. If you would prefer married accommodation, please feel free to arrange your own offsite accommodation and register as a SPRTE day visitor.

Will I be staying with my campus group?

Yes, we try to keep campus groups together. There will be several different campus groups in each college, so there will be plenty of opportunity to meet other students from around Australia.

At SPRTE

Where do I go when I arrive at SPRTE?

Closer to SPRTE you will be advised which college your campus group is staying in. You will have to go there to register, and pick up your room key, booklet and Strand material.

Is there internet access onsite?

Unfortunately, there is no internet access as the campus has a secure network that we don't have access to. However there are internet cafes in the city centre nearby and free internet access can be booked at the Civic Library (East Row, Canberra City).

Where are the main meetings?

The main meetings are at the newly refurbished Llewellyn Hall. It’s a 10 minute walk from all the accommodation locations.
